WIne of the Week – Diamonds for Thanksgiving

Sommeliers, wine experts and just plain old wine afficiandos alike debate this time of year about which wine best goes with the Thanksgiving meal. Well, one size doesn’t always fit all, and this year, California’s Francis Ford Coppola Winery is suggesting a range of wine varieties to go with everything from the first bite to dessert.
The collection of three elegant wines includes Director’s Pinot Noir, a lighter option from California’s Russian River Valley to accentuate the many flavors of the classic Thanksgiving meal. Think flavors of spicy oak and dark fruits which will complement the traditional bird.

There’s also Diamond Claret, a bold, rich option in case there’s also a red meat option on the table either accompanying Tom Turkey or instead of the bird. Coppola’s Diamond Collection 2010 Claret Cabernet Sauvignon carries on the winery’s tradition of its Diamond Collection, inspired by a bottle of 1906 Claret found by Francis Ford Coppola in the basement of the Napa Valley property purchased in 1975. Feeling strongly about creating a new brand, he designed a new label and launched the Diamond Collection in 1997 with Black Label Claret. Today, the wine comes in a black bottle with dramatic gold lettering and netting. Today’s Diamond Collection includes 13 varietals in “all colors of the rainbow,” says Coppola.

Lastly is the Sofia Rose, a great choice to go with the pumpkin pie – light and delicious to complete the meal.
