BOSTON – Restaurants, schools, hospitals and other foodservice organizations are invited to participate in Whole Grain Sampling Day on Wednesday, March 30th this year. The day highlights whole grains and celebrates outlets offering these healthy foods to their customers.
Organized by the Oldways Whole Grains Council (WGC), a Boston-based non-profit, this single-day event challenges restaurants, supermarkets, cafeterias and even food trucks across the nation to creatively promote their whole grain choices using coupons, tastings, marketing, and social media. Last year’s celebration prompted millions of Americans to taste a whole lot of delicious, healthy whole grains and the momentum continues in 2016.
The event also helps drive traffic, sales and media attention to participating organizations. Participation is simple and free − foodservice organizations just choose a plan of action that matches their marketing goals. The Whole Grains Council provides a full suite of resources for those planning to take part in Whole Grain Sampling Day. Events and activities are listed on the organization’s website and highlighted on social media.
Participants already on board for 2016 include Boloco, California Pizza Kitchen, Corner Bakery Café, Maggiano’s, McDonald’s and many more. Studies show that switching to whole grains lowers the risk of many chronic diseases. While benefits are most pronounced for those consuming at least three servings daily, some studies show reduced risks from as little as one serving daily − so every whole grain helps. Consumers know whole grains are healthy; now you can be the one to show them they’re delicious too.
Everyone is encouraged to join in the whole grain conversation on Twitter by using the hashtag #SampleWholeGrains. Restaurants, schools or other organizations interested in participating should contact Kelly Toups, WGC, at 617-896-4884 or email@example.com.
