BRISTOL, RI – The second annual Rhode Island Round-Up dinner series hosts Sonya Coté from Eden East in Austin, TX at the event produced by Eat Drink RI Aug. 12 and 13 with Chef Chris Kleyla from the new Statesman Tavern restaurant here at Horseshoe Farm, a private estate in Westerly.
Named one of The Daily Meal’s “Top 10 Badass Women Chefs in America,” Coté is executive chef and owner of Austin’s Hillside Farmacy, where cooking is about creating “edible pieces of art” with fresh, locally grown and raised ingredients.
Kleyla, a native of East Providence, RI, worked with her at the East Side Show Room, later serving as executive sous chef at Contigo with Chef Andrew Wiseheart in Texas. He returned to New England, moving to Providence where he opened Statesman in 20116 with Sam Glynn, owner of Chomp Kitchen and Drinks in Warren and Statesman Tavern in Bristol, RI.
“I grew up in Rhode Island,” says Coté, “and returning to my home state with my team from Eden East is even better this year because I get to cook with Chris again. We started cooking together in Texas in 2008 as the opening team for East Side Show Room. Collaborating and celebrating the bounty of the Ocean State could not be more exciting. For all Rhode Islanders who haven’t experienced a Texas dinner, come and join us at the Round-Up. Lobster memelas is just a start!”
Rhode Island Round-Up is described by TRIBEZA magazine as “like a high-end picnic.” Each evening begins with drinks and hors d’oeuvres at 6 p.m., followed by a seated dinner paired with seasonal cocktails, including Texas-based Deep Eddy Vodka. All-inclusive tickets are $135 per guest, and are on sale at eatdrinkri.com/riroundup. Full menu is available to view on the ticketing page.
