BOSTON – Bostonians love Chefs in Shorts, an annual event benefitting Future Chefs, an organization that helps disadvantaged youngsters receive culinary education and training, placing them with restaurants that put them to work in their kitchens.
This year’s event, the 19th, was the largest to date with, we were told, over 1,000 attendees at the head house at the Seaport Hotel/World Trade Center. It was a gorgeous setting for a popular event and began to be crowded even before the official 7 p.m. opening!
Next year will be the 20th, says Future Chefs’ Toni Elka who was their with her staff and the Future Chefs themselves. Also there, manning their grills, were some 66 restaurants from the greater Boston area, preparing their specialties for the hungry crowds. Among them was Oak + Rowan, introducing Boston diners to its’ style. The restaurant will open in the Fort Point Channel this summer, the third concept from the Caswell Restaurant Group.
