NORWALK, CT – 75 years ago, Heublein President John Martin and Jack Morgan, owner of Cock ’n Bull, a popular bar on Hollywood’s Sunset Strip, sat down together to talk about ways to publicize Morgan’s ginger beer.
The solution they came up with has been a popular mixed cocktail for 75 years now – the Original Moscow Mule. Simple – with Smirnoff No. 21 Vodka, Cock ‘n Bull’s ginger beer and a lime wedge for garnish, the drink is served in a copper mug and has become a standard in bartenders’ repertoires.
At the recent James Beard Taste America event, Smirnoff paid tribute to the drink, serving the Original and a tasty variation. They also shared the recipe:
THE ORIGINAL MOSCOW MULE invented by Smirnoff:
1.5 oz. Smirnoff No. 2 Vodka
4 oz. Ginger Beer
Squeeze of Fresh Lime
Combine ingredients in a copper mug filled with ice and garish with a lime wedge.
