Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer expands its scope

Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer expands its scope
BOSTON – Boston Bakes For Breast Cancer marks a milestone this year, expanding its fight against breast cancer into Rhode Island from May 8-14.

Participating restaurants and retail establishments will donate profits from a single dessert on the menu to benefit breast cancer research. Carol Sneider, president, is “thrilled to bring our mission to Rhode Island,” she says. The charitable contributes will enable the group to provide grants for much needed breast cancer research, she explains, noting that to date, the group has raised $1 million with its Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer campaigns.

Additionally, the group introduces the Cape & Islands Bakes for Breast Cancer program this year. “After years,” Sneider notes, “we’ve had many participants located on Cape Cod, Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard helping us raise funds.” Their request to have an event with their own name on it was fulfilled this year when Cape & Island Bakes is set for June 6-12. “The Cape & Islands have a 20% higher incident rate of breast cancer than the national average,” Sneider points out. “We all must work together to make a difference, to raise more money for breast cancer research.”

The original event, now in its 17th year, Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer, is scheduled for May 2-8. Want to participate but don’t have a pastry chef?  Montilio’s Baking Company will help with a special Boston Bakes Dessert at a price no one can refuse, she adds. “Purchase the dessert through Montilio’s and participate in Boston Bakes!”

Additionally, she notes: “Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer 2016 is dedicated to the memory of Linda Wheaton. Linda was the mother of Susan Wheaton Guerin, our director of development & communications, and Michelle Wheaton Stafford, herself a six-year breast cancer survivor.
