Savor’s celebration of food, wine & spirits returns to Hartford today thru Apr. 9

HARTFORD – Robert Irvine of Restaurant Impossible on The Food Network brings Savor, A celebration of Wine, Food & Spirits to the Hartford Convention Center today through Saturday, April 9, joined by other leading culinarians and top regional chefs to showcase the vibrant New England culinary scene.

The event partially donates proceeds to the Robert Irvine Foundation, a non-profit that honors men and women who defend the U.S.

Today’s events include Savor the Legend from 7 to 9 p.m. where guests “savor the legends of Pappy Van Winkle” with Irvine and Plan B Burger Bar at the Kentucky style soiree.

Tomorrow and Saturday bring the Grand Tasting. 7 to 10:30 p.m. and noon to 4 on Saturday, featuring bold cuisine, stylish wines, craft beers, and trendy spirits. Celebrity chefs perform, demonstrating signature recipes on the Savor Culinary Demonstration Stage.

Also on Saturday is a Charity Gala from 7:30 to 11 p.m. where celebrity chefs bring their special dishes paired with outstanding wines and other libations.

Taking part are top CT, MA and NY chefs and restaurateurs including Edward Allen and Franck Iglesias from Foxwood Resort, Bill Carbone of Dish Bar & Grill, Hartford, Vinnie Carbone, Carbone’s Kitchen, Hartford, Zac Young, David Burke Group, NY, Dino Giordano, 30Boltwood, Amherst, MA and numerous other celebrities. Newport Mansions Wine & Food Festival coming soon

NEWPORT, RI -The 8th Newport Mansions Wine & Food Festival kicks off Sept. 20 through Sept. 22 with two seminars featuring winemakers from Italy and South Africa. Niccolo Maltini speaks about “The Antinori Family’s Interpretation of Sangiovese,” discussing how they revolutionized Italian winemaking at their vineyards and showcasing their Tuscan wines.

Simon Barlow, proprietor of Rustenberg Wine Estate, leads the South Africa seminar, focusing on trends today in Chardonnay produced there, Following him is Brian Smith, chief wine officer of Club W, presenting “Wine 101,” discussing wines and answering questions about tasting, buying and pairing wines.

Saturday starts with Lou Di Palo exploring the bounty and gastronomic traditions in Tuscany in “Tuscan Table Experience” and helping attendees discover native foods, olive oil and honey. Also on Saturday, Jordan Mackay, author of “Secrets of Sommeliers,” hosts Whiskey Camp in the afternoon with a tasting of world-class whiskeys.

The festival seminars conclude on Sunday when Anthony Giglio presents
“Fresh, Aged & Textured – The Italian Cheese UNCENSORED!” Jordan Mackay will return to returns to wrap up the seminar program with a look at collectible wines by a panel of international winemakers.

Numerous authors will be on hand at the Saturday and Sunday Grand Tastings, among them Ben Sargent, Giovanni Feroce, Michel Richard, Johnny Iuzzini, and Christine Nunn Saturday and on Sunday, Jonathan Pogash, Karen Covey and Chef Paul Pearson, and Chef Alex Guarnaschelli. The Grand Tastings are hosted on the lawn of the historic Marble House. Cooking at the Grand Tastings are Chefs Alexandra Guarnaschelli and Michel Richard.

Two new events this year are the Newport After Dark Party and Sunday Brunch with Alex Guarnaschelli, joining Wine & Rosecliff which returns Friday and the Collectible Wine Dinner at The Elms Saturday.
